Old-Fashioned Spinner Top - Maine, USA
I found this small wooden top at Casey’s Wood Products in Maine, where it is sold as an “Old Fashioned Spinner Top – Unfinished Wood.” Turned from clear hardwood maple and left completely unfinished, the wood has a particularly soft, smooth feel that I immediately liked.
It comes with the string and wheel. Milled from Clear Hardwood Maple. This top is unfinished to allow you to decorate it in your own way. As I like natural wood, I am going to leave it as is.
Its shape is quite different from most of the string spinning tops in my collection. The rounded upper body contrasts with a series of pronounced concentric steps leading toward the metal tip, giving it an unusual and distinctive profile.
Despite its modest size — 66 mm high (with tip) and 41 mm in diameter — it is very well made. The clean turning, natural maple surface and unusual design make this simple American top a particularly interesting addition to my collection.
This particular spinning top with its shape and weight and the fact that it is well balanced allows you to easily perform the Boomerang trick.
What is the boomerang trick?
In the Spintricks & World Spintop Contest trick lists, the Boomerang is a Level 1 trick that combines the spinner throw with a controlled pull-back so the top lands in your hand. It is one of the most basic and recognizable tricks, often used as a foundation for more advanced moves.
