Mexican Trompo - California, USA
I Found this trompo in Seaside, California, during our California journey.
This wooden spinning top was purchased at Dulcería Victoria in Monterrey CA, where we were told the tops are imported from Mexico. I bought three examples made from what appears to be the same wood, yet each one is slightly different in shape and finish, giving each piece its own character.
Monterrey Bay was the only stop on our California journey where we managed to find traditional wooden spinning tops. I am very happy with this find; I had to reposition the nail which was not centered and file the tip to round it as it had been cut with cutting pliers.
I tested it and it very well balanced and is spinning very well. The best way I found to throw it, is from top to down holding the top (tip up) in my right hand a bit slanted to the left.
