Humming Lattu - New Delhi - India
Across India, humming spinning tops have fascinated children and adults for generations.
The Indian name is Bambaram.
Unlike string-launched tops, these simple wooden tops are spun directly by hand, relying on skill, rhythm, and balance. As the top gains speed, air vibrates through small openings or carved grooves, creating the distinctive humming sound that gives these tops their name.
Both playful and mesmerizing, humming tops transform motion into sound — a beautiful example of how traditional craftsmanship can turn a simple object into a source of wonder and joy.
As a fun project the spinning top on the right is a creation of mine.
I designed this spinning top in a CAD software, and I 3D printed it with a Wood filament.
The result is quite satisfying as the top is working very well and hums like a champ.
